The Benefits of Real-Time ddos Attack Analysis

During a DDoS attack it’s extremely useful to have granular security event data so that in the event of an anomalous attack, network security managers can quickly adapt their DDoS mitigation efforts. DDoS hackers have become sophisticated in their attack strategies; i.e., they now typically use multi-vector attacks, and they automate their attacks, changing vectors on the fly. Often, volumetric attacks are used as a smoke screen to hide low and slow application layer attacks. Furthermore, cybercriminals sometimes leverage the power of one botnet to launch pulse-wave, also known as burst, attacks that alternate between two or more targets. In these situations, visibility into the real-time attack definitely helps a Security Operations Center (SOC) effectively counter an attack appropriately with custom mitigations. Granular detection into traffic anomalies can provide guidance into possible configuration changes.

With the ease of access to the internet and prevalence of social media today, unsuspecting computer users are making it easier than ever for malicious actors to target them with malware. This trend has helped provide the perfect environment for DDoS attacks to grow both in size and complexity. In fact, attacks of  100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) have been recorded. To put that into context, the largest recorded DDoS attack was 2 Gbps in 2002. Considering that most websites have less than 1 Gbps of network bandwidth, even small attacks today can quickly prove devastating.

Why Would Someone DDoS your site

So why would someone mount a DDoS attack on your WordPress site? What could they have to gain from it?
There are many reasons why an attacker might want to put your site out of action via a DDoS attack. These include attacks by competitors and attacks because of your content.
But although you can’t do much to stop someone attempting to damage your site with a DDoS attack, there are steps you can take to ensure that if you are subject to an attack, your site won’t cease working and it won’t be vulnerable to hacking.
We’ll cover those steps later in this post, but first, let’s examine why someone might want to mount a DDoS attack on your site
The very first thing we did was actually change the /account/ page URL to something different. This is always a good first measure. However, this only stopped the attack for a short period of time, until they discovered the new URL. Remember, because this is an e-commerce site, it must have a public account page. Obviously on a blog alone, changing the WordPress login URL and hiding it completely will stop a lot of these types of attacks, but that wouldn’t work in this case. We call it WordPress Security by obscurity

If you’re looking for a career in IT technical support or field operations, one of the certifications to consider is CompTIA’s A+. Named by CIO magazine as one of 10 best entry-level certifications for launching an IT career, A+ is best for technicians and other support specialists who are starting out and want a vendor-neutral credential.

Important Things To Do After Earning the CompTIA A+

After you pass the A+ certification, one of your first steps should be to go directly to your resume and add the certification to your list of credentials. CompTIA also gives you the option to add an A+ badge to your resume if you prefer to have that graphic as well.  I don’t know how much employers do or do not notice the badge, so it’s probably just something you should do if you feel like it.
Adding the CompTIA A+ certification to your resume has a nice side benefit.  There is something really powerful in seeing your certification in writing on the same page as your name.  And by adding the A+ certification to your resume right away, you can avoid potentially sending your resume out to an employer later and possibly forgetting that the A+ certification is not listed there.  If you need help with your cyber security resume, check out our helpful hints here.
The necessity to renew the CompTIA Security plus Certification was introduced in 2011. CompTIA Security + Certification holders can participate in the continuous education programs to earn Continuing Education Units and to renew their credentials.

Best CompTIA Security+ Study Guide

CompTIA reserves the right to insert ungraded beta questions. As the name implies, CompTIA is “trying them out” to see how folks react. Most testers aren’t aware of these beta questions and it seems CompTIA puts them right at the beginning of the exam – which is a guaranteed panic-inducer.
If you see questions on the exam that cover topics that you’ve never seen, there’s a great chance they’re beta questions. Go ahead and try your best to guess an answer, but don’t let them upset you – they’re not graded.
My main point here is that the exam blueprints represent the best way to record your progress through the material, and verify that you're prepared to sit for the exam. By the time you show up to take the tests, every single bullet item in those .PDFS should be intimately familiar to you.

a+ certified technician

CompTIA provides descriptions and samples of PBQ questions here. Generally, the PBQ are the first questions presented. Do not lose time because you did not do your pre-test homework. Know what actions are required by you to complete the PBQ.

The Network+® Netsim provides a virtual networking and configuration environment, wherein, you can configure the network elements such as switches, routers, servers, and access points for various parameters and test the same for proper functionality. Networking labs offered include configuring WiFi routers, wireless access points (WAP), file and user access servers, and troubleshooting tools such as trace route and ping. More labs are added from time to time keeping in step with the changes in the exam objectives and the latest technologies.

Also, be aware that the “use of open-source intelligence” exam objective does not refer to using open-source code. Do yourself a favor and search the web for “OSINT” before the exam.
Although cryptography and PKI are only about 12% of the exam, I recommend watching “The Art Of the Problem” videos from Brit Cruise on YouTube to help prepare for that bank of questions. AES-GCM-128 (or 256) and elliptic curve are also very popular algorithms and modes, so make sure you have those bases covered.
